The involvement of local residents with HMH can be traced back to 1973. The first meeting of HMH was held on June 26, 1973 with Sister Marie Adam Administrator of the hospital as Honorary President and Anne Hartman, President. At that time, the Hospital Auxiliary membership of 108 was soon engaged in all kinds of projects; bridge tournaments, bingos, Tag day during Hospital Week, showers for the Tuck Shop and a June Tea to member only a few.
One of their “fun” projects was making favours for the patients not able to go home for special occasions during the year. These were lovely and helped to add a little cheer to one’s stay in the hospital.
Our Auxiliary over these years has provided the funds to purchase much needed hospital equipment, the last major project being the funding and furnishing of the palliative care room in our new hospital.
While the Auxiliary is no longer active, dedicated volunteers continue to support the hospital in many ways: managing the tuck shop and bringing the cart onto the active care unit each day for the patients, participating in any fun raising events, organizing the Tree of Lights, raffles, tag days, etc…
The Hospital is always looking for volunteers; please see our Volunteers page for more information.
